Alexey Sergeev: "IPA CIS adopted 28 model laws in 2013"

01 January 2014

Alexey Sergeev:

“It was a productive year for the Assembly. So goes the opinion expressed by the Council comprised of the Speakers of the 13 chambers of nine national member-parliaments of the IPA CIS. We accomplished all the programs and plans drafted at the end of 2012.

Here, I would stress our law-making activity as our core activity. This is our earliest line of activity that we pursued fr om the very start of the IPA CIS in 1992. Back then, the challenge was to establish a professional body, a team capable, in a very lim ited time, of adopting a number of fundamental model laws to offer a foothold for national legal systems of the young States that emerged after the Soviet Union had been dismantled.

In 2013, the Assembly adopted 28 model acts. To this date, they have been submitted to the national parliaments and are considered as a basis for national laws adapted to local legal environments. We continued to deploy election observation missions in the Commonwealth. We have sent three missions to Armenia, Azerbaijan and Tajikistan to observe presidential elections”, said Alexey Sergeev.
