CIS Experts Agreed on Draft Treaty on Establishment of International Organization for Russian Language

On 5 September, the CIS headquarters hosted an additional meeting of the expert group to approvethe draft Treaty on the Establishment of the International Organisation for the Russian Language.
The event was attended by representatives of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and the CIS Executive Committee.
The experts finalised and agreed the draft Treaty on the Establishment of the International Organisation for the Russian Language, as well as agreed the draft Decision of the Council of the CIS Foreign Ministers on this issue.
The meeting was attended by representative of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat at the CIS Executive Committee Igor Borovko.
The proposal to create an international structure in the Commonwealth to support and promote the Russian language was announced by President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in December 2021 at a meeting with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
At the meeting of the Council of Heads of State in October 2022 in Astana, the initiative was supported by the leaders of the CIS countries. At the same time, the Concept of the organization was approved. In accordance with it, the CIS Executive Committee, together with the governments of the CIS Member Nations, was tasked to organize the development of draft documents establishing and regulating the activities of the newly created international organization.
