X Nevsky International Ecological Congress Kicked off in Tavricheskiy Palace

The ceremonial opening of the X Nevsky International Ecological Congress took place in the Tavricheskiy Palace. The main theme of the anniversary congress is “Ecology: a Right, not a Privilege”.
It is co-organized by the Government of Russian Federation, the Federation Council, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, the operator of the preparation and holding of the event is the Roscongress Foundation. The Organizing Committee is co-chaired by Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko and Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Victoria Abramchenko.
First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Andrey Yatskin and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation Alexander Kozlov addressed the Congress participants with a welcoming speech at the opening session.
Alexander Kozlov called for joining forces to achieve goals on environmental issues. The Minister called the Nevsky Congress an example where the two branches of government – legislative and executive – come together and, relying on the opinion of the people, do their best in this area.
The opening day of the Congress programme will feature roundtables and panel discussions. It is planned to discuss such topics as “Climate: New Challenges of the Century”, “Transition to Digital: How to Make Ecology and IT Friends”, “Water: The Main Resource of the Future”, “Forests: The Lungs of the Planet”, “Ecotourism: Current Situation and Prospects”, “Preserving the Ecology of the Arctic and Antarctic: New Challenges and Development Prospects”, “National Strategies and Priorities in Environmental Protection”, “Circular Economy: The Perpetual Motion Machine in the World of Resources”, as well as “Organic Production: Opportunities, Prospects, and International Cooperation”.
