15 September - International Day of Democracy

The International Day of Democracy was established by the UN General Assembly in 2007 and is celebrated annually on 15 September. The date commemorates the 20^th anniversary of the first international conference of new and restored democracies, which was celebrated in 2008.

The holiday is always a reminder that democracy is an expression of people’s interests, based on inclusiveness, equality and equal participation, and is one of the basic elements of ensuring peace, sustainable development and human rights

On this day various educational events – lectures, seminars, round tables on the theme of democracy are held all over the world.
