7th Forum of Russian and Belarusian Regions Completes Work

Today, on the second day of the 7th Forum of Russian and Belarusian Regions, a plenary session dedicated to the historical heritage of the Great Victory as a basis for the development of social, economic and spiritual relations of peoples of Belarus and Russia was held via video-conferencing.

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko sent their messages to the Forum participants.

Vladimir Putin noted that Russia and Belarus are consistently deepening multidimensional bilateral relations and are purposefully implementing the Treaty on the Establishment of the Union State.

Alexander Lukashenko stressed the efficiency of the format of the Forum of Russian and Belarusian Regions.

Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko spoke at the event. She said that the Forum of Russian and Belarusian Regions had become ingrained in the life of the two countries. Valentina Matvienko also stated that the 7th Forum of Russian and Belarusian Regions was dedicated to the heritage of the Great Victory, and that gave it a high moral, spiritual and humanistic volume.

State Secretary of the Union State Grigory Rapota emphasized that the best tribute to the memory of our fathers and grandfathers who won the Great Patriotic War was the ensuring peaceful and democratic development of the fraternal peoples of Belarus and Russia, straightening friendship, improving welfare and living standards.

During the plenary session, Russian and Belarusian MPs, heads of regions, representatives of executive authorities also delivered speeches. A number of cooperation agreements between the regions of the two countries were also signed. As a result of the event, the draft Final Document of the 7th Forum of Russian and Belarusian Regions was adopted. It will be finalized within two weeks, taking into account the proposals and recommendations made.
