CIS MPs Discussed Issues of Interrelation Between Central and South Asia

On 18 August 2021, an international scientific and practical conference “Interrelation of Central and South Asia: Preconditions, Prospects, Geostrategic Significance” was held via videoconferencing.

The Conference was attended by Deputy Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sodik Safoyev, Deputy Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askar Shakirov, other representatives of parliaments, foreign policy departments, leading academia and experts from Central and South Asia, as well as a number of other countries.

According to the press service of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the event paid special attention to the theoretical issues of cooperation between the countries of Central and South Asia, the directions of scientific research in order to study urgent problems in the field of investment, transport and communication, water and energy, environmental, cultural and humanitarian policy.

During the discussion, the Conference participants made recommendations on strengthening the role of international organizations and civil society institutions in the implementation of projects aimed at regional development and capacity building to counter modern challenges and threats.

According to the press service of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, special attention was paid to the transport integration across the region within the framework of large-scale projects in the center of Eurasia, in particular, such as “One Belt and One Road”, the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, the Eurasian Economic Union.
