Ceremonial Events Dedicated to 100th Anniversary of Heydar Aliyev Held in CIS

On 16 May, a special session of the Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic dedicated to the 100^th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev was held. Speakers of the CIS parliaments came to honor the memory of the national leader.

They made welcoming speeches noting Heydar Aliyev’s contribution to the establishment of Azerbaijan and the development of friendly relations with the CIS Member Nations. Members of the delegations honored the memory of Azerbaijan’s national leader by laying wreaths at his tomb.

On the same day, a ceremonial event dedicated to the 100^th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev was also held in St. Petersburg. Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy and Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Aydin Jafarov took part in the event organized by the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in St. Petersburg. Participants of the event watched a film and a slide show about the life of the statesman, including his visits to St. Petersburg.

Yesterday, on 15 May, photo exhibitions dedicated to the 100^th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev were opened in the Federation Council and the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Sahiba Gafarova, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko and Speaker of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin took part in the opening ceremony.
