Commonwealth Countries Celebrate World Teachers’ Day

On 5 October, a number of CIS countries celebrate World Teachers’ Day, a professional holiday for all teachers, professors and education workers.

Festivities take place in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia. Uzbekistan celebrated Teachers’ Day on 1 October, while Belarus and Tajikistan celebrate it on 6 October.

Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko noted in her congratulatory message that teachers always give more than just knowledge.

MPs of the Commonwealth countries are working on coordinated approaches in legislative support of teachers’ labour in the countries of the region.

The IPA CIS adopted a Model Law on the Status of Educators, Recommendations on Measures to Identify and Systematically Support Talented Children and Youth, Recommendations on the Normative Regulation of Digitalization in the Field of Education, Recommendations on the Organization of with Parents Advocacy and the Activities of Parents’ Communities.
