Commonwealth Parliaments Held First Sessions in 2024

On 17 January 2024, the first plenary session was held in the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The MPs approved amendments to the legislation aimed at promoting environmentally friendly transport and development of infrastructure for electric cars.
Also, the Mazhilis MPs adopted a draft Law on Ratification of the Convention on the Law of the Non-Navigational Uses of International Watercourses.
On 16 January 2024 opened the spring session of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
The MPs adopted a Law on granting local authorities the right to use material and financial reserves to eliminate emergencies and natural disasters, as well as to prevent them.
On 16 January 2024, the session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia was held.
The MPs adopted the draft amendments to the Law on Military Service. They also ratified the Agreement on Mutual Recognition of Academic Degrees in the Eurasian Economic Union Member States. The Armenian Parliament has approved the amendments and additions to the Law on Penitentiary Service.
On 11 January 2024, the first session of the chamber was held under the chairmanship of Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbayev.
The MPs approved the Law on amendments and additions to some legislative acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on export credit agency issues and promotion of exports of non-primary goods. The Law on Ratification of the Protocol Amending the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union has been approved.
10 January 2024, at the session of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic the MPs considered and adopted a draft Law on Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic (the Code of Offenses, the Law on State-Guaranteed Legal Aid). The draft Law on Amending the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic and invalidating the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic on General Principles of Amnesty and Clemency has been approved. The MPs considered and adopted the draft Law on Amendments to the Civil Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
On 10 January 2024, at the session of the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan two investment agreements were approved. The purpose of which is to develop the textile and industrial sectors, increase the country’s export potential, attract investment and create new jobs.
