Federation Council Discussed Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation on Countering Global Challenges and Threats

On 14 February 2022, the committees of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on International Affairs and on Defense and Security held a roundtable “International Cooperation on Countering Global Challenges and Threats, Including the Crisis of the Arms Control System”.
The event was chaired by Chairperson of the Committee of the Federation Council on International Affairs Grigory Karasin. The meeting was attended by senators of the Russian Federation, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, as well as executive authorities and academia.
According to Grigory Karasin, it is necessary to increase cooperation with the CIS Members Nations, primarily on countering international terrorism and extremism, drug trafficking, organized crime and illegal migration. He also stressed that the current situation required closer cooperation in countering global challenges and threats within the framework of such organizations as the IPU, the IPA CIS, as well as the PACE and the OSCE PA.
The meeting adopted basic recommendations, which will be further amended and sent to the relevant ministries and agencies.
