MPs of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan Discussed Implementation of Joint Programs

Speaker of the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda met with Speaker of the Halk Maslahaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The sides discussed a number of issues of interparliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

The participants noted that interaction between the national parliaments occupies an important place in the development of constructive Tajik-Turkmen cooperation. In modern conditions, parliamentary diplomacy acquires a special significance. Turkmenistan pays great attention to the promotion of this format and actively develops interparliamentary relations with other countries.

The sides expressed their readiness to develop cooperation through regular meetings, bilateral and multilateral events, mutual visits of parliamentary delegations.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov suggested strengthening the role of parliaments in deepening humanitarian relations on the basis of common cultural heritage and spiritual values of the Tajik and Turkmen peoples.

During the meeting it was stressed that the MPs of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan constructively cooperate in multilateral platforms - in the IPA CIS, the Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the Inter-Parliamentary Forum of the Central Asian States. The parties expressed their readiness for further cooperation in this direction.
