Republic of Belarus Celebrates Independence Day and 80th Anniversary of Liberation from Nazi Invaders

On July 2, a solemn assembly dedicated to Independence Day and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Republic of Belarus from Nazi invaders was held at the Palace of the Republic in Minsk.

The decision to celebrate Independence Day on July 3, the day of the liberation of the Belarusian capital from Nazi occupation, was made during a national referendum in 1996. On this day, tribute is traditionally paid to the heroism and valor of front-line soldiers and home front workers, partisans and underground fighters and all those who brought freedom to the Belarus people.

Opening the event, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko noted that these days Belarusians remember the most important pages of their history. The head of state emphasized that Belarus, having overcome many difficulties, is successfully developing and making ambitious plans for the future.

”These are the foundations of national security for any state. Our priority is people. We will continue to do everything to improve conditions in every corner of the country for creating families and having children, for work and leisure, and for achieving desired heights in science, creativity, and sports,” stated the President.

The parade took place in Minsk and became the largest in the history of the independent country. More than 6,000 military personnel and about 250 units of military equipment were involved. Along with the Belarusian Armed Forces, marching contingents from Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and China paraded through the streets of the capital.

The event was attended by Speaker of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Natalya Kochanova and Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Igor Sergeenko.

The parade was watched by honored guests including Speaker of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin, Deputy Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Adil Aliyev, Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Konstantin Kosachev, First Deputy Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli Mahmadali Vatanzoda and parliamentarians from CIS countries.

Secretary General, IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy also participated in the solemn events dedicated to this significant date.

Earlier, Natalya Kochanova had sent a congratulatory message on the occasion of Independence Day and the 80th anniversary of the country's liberation from Nazi invaders. She noted that the feat of the Belarus people during the Great Patriotic War is a special chapter in the nation's history and an example of true patriotism.
