Russia Celebrates Constitution Day

The Constitution Day is celebrated in the Russian Federation. The Basic Law has become the foundation for the development of the state and civil society, harmonization of social relations, strengthening peace and accord.

The Constitution of the Russian Federation was adopted on 12 December 1993 after the referendum and came into force on 25 December 1993 on the day of its official publication. It guarantees equal rights and freedoms to each citizen, provides opportunities for their full implementation and remains the key to democratic development of Russia.

A special edition copy of the Constitution of the Russian Federation is kept in the Library of the Presidential Administration in Kremlin and is used exclusively during inauguration.

The congratulatory message was sent by Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko

“At the heart of this public holiday is respect for the main law of our country, which contains all the necessary tools to protect national interests, ensure economic and social stability, and most importantly - proclaims the highest value of human rights and freedoms,” - said the Speaker.
