Russia Celebrates Constitution Day

The Constitution Day is celebrated in the Russian Federation. It has been 30 years since the adoption of the fundamental law of the country, which laid the basis for the development of the state and civil society, harmonization of social relations, strengthening peace and accord.
The Constitution of the Russian Federation was adopted on 12 December 1993 after the referendum and came into force on 25 December 1993 on the day of its official publication. It guarantees equal rights and freedoms to each citizen, provides opportunities for their full implementation and remains the key to democratic development of Russia, prosperity of the country’s present and future and of its citizens.
A special edition copy of the Constitution of the Russian Federation is kept in the Library of the Presidential Administration in Kremlin and is used exclusively during inauguration.
The Constitution Day was an official day-off until 2005. In December 2004 the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation adopted amendments to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation and made it a workday.
