Russian MPs Approved Amendments to Legislation on Parliamentarians

On 8 December 2020, the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation adopted in the second reading the amendments to the draft Law on the Procedure for Forming the Federation Council. The MPs also adopted in the second reading the Law on the Status of the Members of the Federation Council and the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
In accordance with the Constitution of the Russian Federation, the procedure for forming the Federation Council was changed, and the concept of a senator of the Russian Federation was introduced. The provisions on the terms of the beginning and termination of powers, as well as requirements and restrictions for senators were fixed.
