Tajikistan Celebrates National Unity Day

On this day 25 years ago, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and leader of the United Tajik Opposition Sayid Abdulloh Nuri signed the General Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and National Accord in Tajikistan, thus ending the five-year civil war. This agreement created the conditions for the democratic development, the holding of free elections and the restoration of the country’s economy.

The holiday was established in accordance with the decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.
