Uzbekistan Celebrates Independence Day

On 31 August 1991, at an extraordinary session of the Supreme Soviet of the Uzbek SSR in Tashkent, a decision on the declaration of the state independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan was adopted, according to which the country acquired full state power. The same decision declared 1 September to be the Independence Day of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Since then, every year the main state holidays has been ceremoniously and colorfully celebrated throughout the country. Large-scale celebrations, concerts, theatre performances and sporting events are organized in all cities of the Republic.
In honor of the holiday, 1 September was declared a day off.
