Uzbekistan MPs Hold Seminar on Countering Corruption

On 13 August 2020, the Committees of the Senate and the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Judicial and Legal Issues and on Countering Corruption held a seminar “Procedures for Maintaining Ratings of Corruption and Justice”.

The event brought together the MPs, representatives of the Supreme Court, the High Judicial Council, the Anti-Corruption Agency, the Academy of the General Prosecutor’s Office, the Institute of Legislative Issues and Parliamentary Research under the Oliy Majlis, the Center for Public Opinion Studies and other civil society institutions, as well as the media.

The participants of the seminar were briefed on the ongoing reforms in the field of justice and countering corruption, as well as on the activities on creation of legal mechanisms to ensure the true independence of the judicial power and prevent corruption. It was also stressed that there were still some problems that needed solution in order to increase the effectiveness of the ongoing reforms.

The participants also discussed the methodological manual prepared by the Institute of Legislative Issues and Parliamentary Research under the Oliy Majlis that featured the procedures for maintaining ratings of corruption and justice in the regions, the sources for generation of the ranking results and a system for their evaluation.
