Uzbekistan Sets Date for Parliamentary Elections

Regular elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan will be held on 27 October 2024. This was announced by Chair of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan Zayniddin Nizamkhodzhaev.

He added that the election campaign will start on 26 July 2024.

The elections will be held for the first time on the majority-proportional basis. Under this system, constituencies are divided into single mandate electoral districts and a single electoral district. 75 deputies of the lower house of parliament will be elected from single mandate constituencies under the majoritarian system (voting for a candidate), while the remaining 75 will be elected under the proportional system, i.e. on the basis of votes given to political parties (on party lists).

It is determined that women should make up at least 40 per cent of the number of nominated candidates for deputies.
