CIS Agreement to Mitigate Diabetes submitted for ratification to the State Douma

Early this year, the Government of the Russian Federation approved a draft federal law on the Ratification of the CIS Agreement on Cooperation among the CIS Member Nations in Curbing the Spread of Diabetes. The draft was immediately forwarded to the State Douma for ratification as appropriate. 

The Agreement in particular provides for:
- long-term comprehensive national action plans for the prevention and early detection of diabetes and mitigation of its complications;
- cooperation to pursue new methods of treating diabetes and mitigation of its complications as well as social rehabilitation of patients with diabetes;
- raising awareness to prevent the onset of diabetes and mitigation of its complications and available treatment and rehabilitation;
- organization of international conferences and symposiums.
The Agreement also provides for emergency treatment of diabetes patients from countries parties to the Agreement without mutual compensation.
The text of the Agreement has been drafted by the IPA CIS and submitted for consideration to the CIS Execom. The final text was adopted at the Summit of the CIS Heads of State in Cisinau on 14 November 2008.
