CIS countries celebrate Victory Day

On 8 May 1945, the Decree of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR declared 9 May the Victory Day. It is a public holiday in all CIS countries.

However, it has different names in different countries: Victory and Peace Day in the Republic of Armenia, Victory over Fascism Day in the Republic of Azerbaijan, Victory Day in the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation and Ukraine, Victory and Memory Day in the Republic of Moldova, Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War in the Republic of Tajikistan. But in spite of the variety of names the CIS citizens celebrate their common victory.

Victory parades and Immortal Regiment marches take place on the main squares; cities and towns hold concerts and exhibitions. Evening fireworks beautifully end celebrations across the country.
