Day of Constitution in Armenia

Republic of Armenia’s Constitution Day is a national holiday officially declared a non-working day. It is annually celebrated on 5 July as a Day of Armenia’s fundamental law. This day in 1995 the draft Constitution was submitted to a national referendum and adopted by the people of the Republic of Armenia.
The Constitution of the Republic of Armenia of 1995 became the first constitution of independent republic. It was amended twice in 2005 and in 2015, and all amendments were approved by national referendum.
According to the Constitution, the Republic of Armenia is a sovereign, democratic state based on social justice and the rule of law. Power is vested in its citizens, who exercise it directly through the mechanisms of free elections, referenda, as well as through the state and local self-government bodies and officials. The President shall be the guarantor of the independence, territorial integrity and security of the Republic of Armenia.
