Republic of Belarus celebrates the Independence Day

The decision to celebrate the Independence Day on 3 July, on the day of liberation of the capital from the fascist invaders, was adopted at the republican referendum in 1996. The date was established by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus of 11 December 1996 No 1 “On Establishing the Official Holiday – the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus”. The Independence Day used to be celebrated on 27 July, on the day of the adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty in 1990.
