Chair of Central Election Commission of Republic of Belarus Igor Karpenko Met with Colleagues from Leningrad Region

On the eve of the International Research and Practice Conference “CIS Convention on the Standards of Democratic Elections: Open Space for International Cooperation”, Chair of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Belarus Igor Karpenko met with Chair of the Electoral Commission of the Leningrad Region Mikhail Lebedinsky.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the IPA CIS Council – Director of the International Institute for Monitoring the Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD) Ivan Mushket, Deputy Head of the Department of Organizational, Financial Work and International Cooperation of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Belarus Sergey Shmarlovsky  and Acting Deputy Chairman of the Election Commission of the Leningrad Region Vyacheslav Baev.

On 6 and 7 October 2022 the headquarters of the IPA CIS will host the International Research and Practice Conference “CIS Convention on the Standards of Democratic Elections: Open Space for International Cooperation” dedicated to the 20th anniversary of signing of this document. The conference will be attended by MPs of the CIS Member Nations, heads of CIS statutory bodies, representatives of international organizations, government authorities and election administration bodies, public organizations, as well as academia and experts from the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The conference will discuss the role of the CIS Convention on the Standards of Democratic Elections in the implementation and protection of the citizens’ rights, issues of interstate and interparliamentary cooperation in the development of common standards for the conduct and monitoring of elections, measures against external interference in the electoral process, youth participation in the electoral process, and others.

The program of the event will include a plenary session, roundtables, an exhibition “Advanced technologies in the electoral process”.
