Implementation of Year of Russian Language in Commonwealth Countries was Discussed in Minsk

On 29 August, the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk hosted a regular meeting of the CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives at the Statutory and other Bodies of the Commonwealth.

General Secretary of the CIS Sergey Lebedev took part in the event.

The plenipotentiaries discussed the implementation of the Action Plan for the Year of the Russian Language as the language of Interethnic communication in the CIS in 2023.

The plan consists of eight sections and includes 154 events of general humanitarian, scientific, educational and enlightening nature. In the first half of the year, 22 items of the Plan were fully implemented, 54 more items are in the process of implementation, the press service of the CIS Executive Committee reports. Following the results of the discussion, the post-ambassadors noted the importance of systematic information support of the events dedicated to the Year of the Russian Language in the CIS Member Nations.

The permanent plenipotentiaries also basically formed the draft agenda of the meeting of the Council of the CIS Heads of Government, which will be held on 27 October in Bishkek. A specific section in the agenda of this meeting is devoted to humanitarian issues. The participants will consider the Action Plan for the preparation and celebration of the 80^th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War in 2025 in the CIS and the Action Plan for the Year of Volunteer Movement in the CIS in 2024.

Representative of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat at the CIS Executive Committee Igor Borovko took part in the meeting. The next meeting of the Council of the Permanent Representatives will be held on 3 October 2023 in Minsk.
