Issues of Security Cooperation and International Positioning of Commonwealth Discussed at Meeting of CIS Council of Permanent Representatives

Issues of cooperation in the field of security and international positioning of the Commonwealth were discussed at a meeting of the CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiaries of the CIS countries

A regular meeting of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the CIS countries to the statutory and other bodies of the Commonwealth was held.

During the meeting, the Permanent Plenipotentiaries discussed the implementation of the Roadmap for the realization of initiatives expressed by the heads of delegations during the meetings of the Council of Heads of State, the Council of Heads of Government, the Council of Foreign Ministers and the CIS Economic Council in terms of cooperation in the field of security.

Some of the initiatives have been successfully implemented and taken into account in conceptual, programmatic or planned documents, decisions, while a number of other proposals are in the final stage of implementation. In the medium term, - strengthening coordination of actions between the relevant bodies and special services of the CIS countries to combat terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and other forms of organized transnational crime, according to the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

The strategic objectives are intensification of cooperation in the field of labour migration, harmonization of the contractual legal framework in the field of labour legislation, development of digital platforms to optimize employment processes, creation of a common secure information space of the CIS.

The Council members were briefed on foreign policy cooperation in 2023 in the context of the international positioning of the Commonwealth. In accordance with the Concept of Further Development of the CIS, establishing contacts and mutually beneficial cooperation with other regional organizations and integration associations is an objective need for solving the CIS tasks.

The leaders of the countries regularly adopt statements and appeals that reflect the common approaches of the CIS countries on topical international and regional topics. In 2023, statements were adopted on international relations in a multipolar world, on support and promotion of the Russian language as a language of interethnic communication, on protection of the human and civil right to freedom of religion. The Council of Heads of Government adopted a statement on prospects for cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

Within the CIS framework, an important mechanism of multilevel inter-midwifery consultations is being implemented, which provides an opportunity for interested member countries to exchange views on key issues of world politics on a regular basis.
