Results of CIS Observers’ Work Discussed in Minsk

Today, the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk hosted a regular meeting of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the CIS Member Nations at the Statutory and other Bodies of the Commonwealth.

At the meeting, the results of the CIS Observer Mission work in the elections in 2021-2022 were discussed. The participants noted a strong CIS legal framework for election monitoring based on international instruments, primarily on the Convention on the Standards of Democratic Elections, Electoral Rights and Freedoms in the Member Nations of the CIS.
119 parliamentary and presidential elections and referenda have been monitored over 20 years of work. The Permanent Representatives noted the active work of the representatives of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia.

On 14 October 2022, at the meeting of the Council of the CIS Heads of State , an Agreement was signed on the formation of a CIS Advisory Board of the Heads of Election Administration Authorities aimed at drafting recommendations for improvement the electoral process and revising the results of the election campaigns and developing proposals both for the electoral process and development the Mission’s work.
