Travel HUB “Commonwealth”: Working Group to be Prepared Proposals for Development of Tourism in CIS

The prospects of the International Forum Travel HUB “Commonwealth” were told at an event in the Parliamentary Centre of the IPA CIS. On 14 March, the presentation of the tourism potential of Uzbekistan took place there.

Head of the Department of Congress Activities of the Secretariat of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Yulia Zaikova noted that the international forum Travel HUB “Commonwealth” has been held since 2020, it has become a platform for interaction between government authorities, non-profit organisations and business community involved in the tourism industry of the CIS countries.

The aim of the project is to increase tourist flows, as well as the level of recognition and attractiveness of the cultural and tourist potential of the region.

In 2024, the Forum was held for the first time in an off-site format - in Dushanbe. As a result of the event, recommendations were made to promote the development of the tourism industry and contribute to the strengthening of interstate cooperation aimed at introducing mechanisms and principles of sustainable development of the hospitality and tourism industry in the CIS region.

Consul General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in St. Petersburg Abdurakhmon Mahmudov noted that the flow of tourists between Russia and Uzbekistan was growing.

Head of the Samarkand Regional Tourism Department Suhrob Ergashev presented the tourist potential of the ancient city. According to him, 750 thousand Russian tourists visited Uzbekistan in 2024.

The meeting ended with a question-and-answer session, business negotiations between representatives of the two countries’ tourism companies and a tasting of Uzbek cuisine.
