Anne Brasseur elected as new President of PACE

Leader of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Anne Brasseuer was yesterday elected as new President of PACE for a term of one year with one possible extension for another year. She received support of 165 parliamentarians out of 317. The newly elected President said that her intension was to strengthen the liaison with the Council of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, fight racism, anti-semitism, corruption, working with the EU and reforming the monitoring procedures. Previously, the head of PACE used to be elected by a show of hands. The President governs the Bureau and chairs the Assembly meetings and represents it internationally. Anne Brasseur was contended in the elections by Robert Walter from Great Britain.
