Anti-smoking project approved in Astana

The Advisory Board approved the CIS Action Plan on Reducing the Harmful Effects of Tobacco Use.

The plan includes drafting the model law Protecting Public Health from Harmful Effects of Tobacco Use, as well as measures against tobacco lobby in the state policy, preparation of recommendations on promoting smoke-free environment, ban on tobacco advertising, and raising people's awareness in the field.

The XXVI session of the Advisory Board took place in the capital of Kazakhstan. It was attended by representatives of Public Health Ministries and healthcare organizations of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, as well as UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibe and Special Representative of the WHO Office for Europe Hayk Nikogosyan.

The next session of the CIS Advisory Board on Public Health will take place in April-May 2017 in the Kyrgyz Republic.
