Privileges and guarantees for veterans of the Great Patriotic War discussed in Minsk

The Intergovernmental Working Group on Analysis and Drafting Proposals on Preferential Treatment of Invalids is hosting its meeting in the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk.

The experts are debating two documents – the Agreement of 15 April 1994 on the Mutual Recognition of Privileges and Guarantees for Participants and Invalids of the Great Patriotic War, Participants of Military Actions in the Territory of Other States, Families of Killed Servicemen, and the Agreement on Mutual Recognition of the Right to Travel Privileges of Disabled People and Participants of the Great Patriotic War and Equivalent Persons dated 12 March 1993.

According to the CIS Executive Committee press service, the documents are being considered with due account to the monetization of benefits and exploring the feasibility of centralized issuance of travel coupons.

The Agreement of 15 April 1994, signed by all CIS member nations is aimed at strengthening social protection of veterans. According to the document, the veterans of the Second World War, participants of military actions in the territory of other states and families of killed servicemen living in the Commonwealth countries have the right to preferential medical care, preferential provision at the workplace with vouchers for attending sanatoriums, medical facilities, health resorts, as well as other benefits.

Besides, in accordance with the Agreement, the member nations should take measures to ensure the protection of graves of and monuments to invalids and participants of the Second World War, participants of military actions in the territory of other states.
