In Minsk (Belarus) CIS experts discussed cooperation in combating narcotic drug trafficking and countering drug addiction

The team of experts approving projects within Program of cooperation of CIS member states in combating illegal traffic of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and its precursors and countering drug addiction in 2014–2018 met in the CIS Executive Committee.

The meeting was attended by authorized representatives and experts from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, as well as the Council of border troops, the Council of CIS Interior Ministers, the IPA CIS Secretariat, and the CIS Executive Committee.

The participants tasked the IPA CIS to analyze national laws of CIS member states related to drug issues and provide recommendations on their further improvement and unification.

Besides the IPA CIS should continue working on the improvement of model anti-drug laws and review existing model laws. In particular, the Joint Commission on harmonizing laws against terrorism, crime and drug business in the CIS was mandated to propose amendments and additions to the model law “On narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors” and build recommendations for the staff of competent authorities of the CIS countries related to organizing and effecting controlled deliveries to counter illegal trafficking.
