Valentina Matvienko: Nevskiy Congress is Bright Event in Global Environmental Calendar

A meeting of the Organizing Committee for the preparation and holding of the XI Nevskiy International Ecological Congress was held in Moscow. The Congress is co-organized by the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the Government of Russia, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, as well as the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.
The Organizing Committee discussed proposals concerning the architecture of the business program, discussion issues, touched upon the formation of the cultural program.
The event was held under the leadership of Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko.
She said that the XI Nevskiy Congress was scheduled for 22 – 23 May, 2025.
According to Valentina Matvienko, the Nevskiy Congress could be called a bright event in the world environmental calendar. During the 16 years of the Congress, interest in the event has been growing. In 2008, 700 people from 17 countries took part in it, and 1.5 thousand people from 52 countries took part in the X Congress.
The Chairperson noted that concern for the environment was something that should unite countries and peoples rather than create dividing lines between them. She emphasized that today the issues of effective management of natural resources and environmental protection are among Russia’s key national priorities.
In her opinion, Russia had a lot to share with foreign colleagues in terms of environmental legislation, projects to eliminate accumulated damage and many other areas. Many of the projects being implemented in the field of ecology “had grown” from the recommendations of the Nevskiy Congress.
Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy mentioned at the meeting that the Congress had long enjoyed international prestige. The dates of the XI Nevskiy International Ecological Congress are included in the schedule of the IPA CIS main events plan for 2025.
