May I welcome the guests and the organizers of the VI Nevsky International Ecological Congress.
The Congress ranks among the most authoritative international events dedicated to the environment and conservation. For the sixth straight year it gathers public officials, businesses and expert from over 20 nations of the world to discuss current environmental challenges and make proposals for common action to raise environmental awareness.
These issues are important to us because Russia this year is celebrating the Year of Conservation. We are looking forward to discussing items of this year’s agenda: better environmental legislation, better water management and promoting biotechnologies.
Environmental awareness translates first and foremost into less environmental impact and conservation of resources. There is a growing understanding that well-being cannot come at a price of destroying delicate natural balances. It is here where the responsibility of the government and business as well as personal commitment of every one of us comes into play.
There is no doubt in my mind that the Congress will promote all stakeholders to gather over the noble task of protecting and cherishing nature for the well-being of future generations.
May I wish you every success in your deliberations.
