75 Single Mandate Constituencies Formed In Uzbekistan for Elections to Legislative Chamber of Parliament

The Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan decided to create 75 single mandate constituencies for holding elections of deputies to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan - within each administrative-territorial unit depending on the number of voters in them. The submissions of the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the Councils of the People's Deputies of the regions and of the city Tashkent and the decisions of the Central Election Commission (CEC) on the formation of electoral districts were adopted through the “E-Saylov” information system.

The CEC also decided to create three expert groups to check the correctness of signature sheets submitted by political parties. According to the country's Election Code, the expert group may include specialists from the internal affairs and justice bodies, as well as representatives of civil society institutions.

The election campaign in Uzbekistan started on 26 July. Elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan will be held for the first time on the basis of a mixed, i.e. majority-proportional electoral system. 75 deputies will be elected directly under the majoritarian system, when voters vote for specific candidates, and another 75 - under the proportional system by voting for political parties.

A total of 150 deputies will be elected to the Legislative Chamber. According to the CEC, about 30,000 candidates and about 90,000 of their proxies, as well as more than 70,000 local and international observers are expected to participate in the election process.
