CIS Observer Mission: Presidential Elections in Uzbekistan Were Open, Democratic and Transparent

Today, the final press conference of the CIS Observer Mission at the elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan took place in Tashkent and summarizes the results of the international monitoring of the election campaign.

The event was attended by Head of the CIS Observer Mission, Chairperson of the Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev, IPA CIS Observer Team Coordinator, First Deputy Speaker of the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Mahmadali Vatanzoda, IPA CIS Council Secretary General Dmitriy Kobitskiy, MPs and representatives of the central election commissions of the CIS countries. 

The Head of the Mission said that preparations for the elections were held in an orderly manner at a high level. He noted the positive changes made to the electoral legislation of Uzbekistan in accordance with the recommendations of international observers. Sergei Lebedev emphasized that the CIS Observer Mission had all the opportunities for the implementation of its main objective.

The observers concluded that the election campaign in Uzbekistan ensured the right of Uzbekistani citizens to freely express their will. According to them, the elections were held in full compliance with the legislation of the Republic and generally accepted democratic principles.

Sergei Lebedev also informed media representatives that the conclusion of international observers would be published after the official announcement of the results of the presidential elections in Uzbekistan.

IPA CIS Observer Team Coordinator Mahmadali Vatanzoda noted that based on the results of the long-term monitoring the electoral legislation meets international standards. Mahmadali Vatanzoda noted the high level of training of chairpersons and members of election commissions and concluded that the elections in Uzbekistan were held in an open democratic and transparent manner.
