CIS Observer Team Summarized Results of Election Monitoring in Republic of Kazakhstan

On 20 March, the final press conference of the CIS Election Observation Mission to the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held in Astana, where results of the international monitoring of the election campaign have been summed up.

According to Head of the CIS Observation Mission Leonid Anfimov, 196 accredited CIS observers took part in the monitoring.

IPA CIS Observer Team Coordinator, Deputy Chair of Standing Committee on Regional and Eurasian Integration Vagharshak Hakobyan, said that 61 observers took part in the election monitoring and the Republic of Kazakhstan had been working consistently to bring legislation into line with the Convention on the Standards of Democratic Elections, Electoral Rights and Freedoms in the CIS Member Nations.

Responding to the journalists’ questions about the election observation results, Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy noted the high professionalism of the CEC of Kazakhstan and plans to prepare a study summarizing the best practices of elections and referenda in the Commonwealth.
