IPA CIS International Observers Attended Opening of Polling Stations at Presidential Elections in Republic of Tajikistan

Observer Team Coordinator, Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Federal Structure, Regional Policy, Local Government and Northern Affairs Oleg Melnichenko and Secretary General – Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Dmitry Kobitskiy were present at the opening of section 23 at the Avicenna Tajik State Medical University.

They examined the ballot boxes, assessed the availability of information materials, talked with members of the election commission and residents of Dushanbe, who were the first to come to vote at the presidential elections. The observers also drew attention to the measures taken to protect the participants of the electoral process from COVID-19.

Speaking with journalists, Oleg Melnichenko noted that the IPA CIS observers would work during the day at the polling stations not only in Tajikistan, but also in Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.

The IPA CIS observers are also to meet with the observers from the OSCE/ODIHR mission to exchange views on the monitoring process.
