IPA CIS Observer Team Assessed Parliamentary Elections in Serbia

The elections to the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia took place on 21 June 2020 monitored by the IPA CIS observers.
After the opening of the polling stations in Belgrade, the observers followed observed the work of the local electoral commissions №1, №2, №3 of the Vrachar district.
During the election day, the IPA CIS International Observers visited polling stations in Belgrade and surrounding settlements noting the high voter turnout. The elections were held in a calm atmosphere. Chairpersons and members of district election commissions eagerly answered the observer’s questions.
During the monitoring, the IPA CIS Observers recorded several minor flaws. For example, some polling stations were located in small rooms, which, considering the related to the COVID-19 situation, led to queues, others were located on the second floors of buildings, which created inconvenience for elder citizens.
Based on the monitoring results, the IPA CIS Observers issued a statement, which noted the high level of organization and conditions created by the electoral management bodies of the Republic of Serbia, as well as the compliance of the elections with the national electoral legislation and the international standards for the conduct of democratic elections.
