IPA CIS Observers Discussed Preparations for Presidential Election in Belarus with Participants of Election Campaign

The IPA CIS International observers discussed the preparations for the presidential election in Belarus with candidates and representatives of the parties’ campaign headquarters. The meetings were held in the online format within the framework of long-term monitoring.

Deputy Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat – Director of the International Institute for Monitoring the Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD), Doctor of Law, Professor Ivan Mushket said that the group of observers would include representatives of the parliaments of the IPA CIS Member Nations, staff members of the Assembly and experts of IPA CIS IIMDD. The head of the institute added that all regions of Belarus would be covered by the observation.

The participants of the meeting discussed the preparation of the elections with Chair of the Republican Labor and Justice Party Alexander Khizhnyak and Head of the election headquarters Zhanna Stativko.

It was reported that the party nominated more than 1,000 observers, which will cover more than 60% of polling stations. 

A meeting with candidate from the Communist Party of Belarus Sergey Syranko and representatives of the leadership of his election headquarters was held.

The members of the Communist Party reported about the informational interference in the elections from outside.

Both candidates noted effective interaction with representatives of the CEC and other election administration bodies.

The IPA CIS international observers discussed the preparations for the election campaign with authorized representative of the presidential candidate Alexander Lukashenko, Chair of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus Yuri Senko.

Yuri Senko said that the group of authorized representatives of the incumbent head of state consists of 15 people (the legal maximum is 30 representatives). More than 2.5 million signatures have been collected for the candidate.

The meetings were attended by Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Shabdanbek Alishev, Deputy Director of IPA CIS IIMDD Elena Eremenko, experts and staff members of IPA CIS IIMDD.
