IPA CIS Observers Discussed Start of Electoral Campaign in Kyrgyz Republic With Presidential Candidates

The IPA CIS international observers began long-term monitoring of the presidential elections in the Kyrgyz Republic. On 18 December 2020, the observers held meetings via videoconferencing with presidential candidates Kanybek Imanaliev, Aymen Kasenov and Klara Soorunkulova, as well as first deputy head of the headquarters of presidential candidate Sadyr Japarov – Erkin Bayamanov.

During the meetings, the participants discussed the issues of administration of electoral processes, the work of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda and the start of pre-election campaigning.

Deputy Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat – Director of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD) Ivan Mushket informed the participants of the meetings about the progress of the formation of the IPA CIS Observer Team, and offered to continue communication during short-term monitoring.

The IPA CIS observers monitor the preparation and conduct of the snap elections of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic in accordance with the invitation of Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Talant Mamytov. At the moment, 34 international observers from the IPA CIS were accredited by the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of the Kyrgyz Republic.
