Team of St. Petersburg Universities Won Scientific Debate on Modern Technologies in Electoral Process

On 9 December 2020, the Third International Scientific and Practical Conference “Modern Technologies in the Electoral Process and Elections Monitoring” took place in the Tavricheskiy Palace – the IPA CIS headquarters. The Conference was held in the format of scientific debates among university students from the CIS Member Nations.

The International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of the IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD) organized the Conference. IPA CIS Council Secretary General Dmitriy Kobitskiy and Director of the North-West Institute of Management of the Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, Doctor of Economics, Professor Vladimir Shamakhov co-chaired the jury.

The event was attended by Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Viktor Kogut and Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askhat Nuskabaj, as well as scientists, experts and representatives of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat.

The debate was held remotely: students recorded their answers on video. Each performance was rated by the jury on a five-point scale. The debate was devoted to the theme “Modern Technologies in the Electoral Process and Election Monitoring”. The team of students from the St. Petersburg universities won the debate (5404 points), and the IPA CIS team took second place (5401 points). In total, 721 students from 56 universities of the CIS Member Nations took part in the 2020 competition.
