IPA CIS Observers Held Meetings With Leadership of CEC and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Uzbekistan

The IPA CIS Observers, headed by Deputy Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat, IPA CIS IIMDD Director Ivan Mushket  held a number of meetings with representatives of the public authorities of the country and the organizers of the upcoming elections within the framework of long-term monitoring of the presidential elections in the Republic of Uzbekistan.

On 6 October 2021, the observers visited the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan and met with CEC Chairperson Zayniddin Nizamkhodjaev. He briefed the observers on the progress of the current election campaign and noted that elections were held openly and transparently in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Electoral Code adopted in 2019. Zayniddin Nizamkhodjaev noted the issues of the training of national observers for the upcoming elections by the political parties of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the registration of observers from public organizations and civil society structures. He also highly appreciated the work of the IPA CIS IIMDD.

Ivan Mushket informed the CEC Chairperson that at the upcoming elections the observers also planned to carry out the monitoring at the polling stations in embassies and consulates in 14 countries.

On the same day, the IPA CIS observers met with First Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Farhod Arziev. He informed the observers about the opening of more than 300 mobile stations for early voting of citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan, who lived abroad. Farhod Arziev noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan had sent an invitation to participate in observation of the upcoming presidential elections to 21 international organizations, including the CIS, the IPA CIS, the OSCE, etc.
