IPA CIS Observers Monitor Early Voting in Presidential Elections in Uzbekistan

A group of the IPA CIS international observers is being sent to Uzbekistan to monitor the snap presidential elections. Deputy Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhakyp Asanov was appointed its coordinator.

The IPA CIS observers take part in the monitoring of the snap presidential elections at the invitation of Head of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan Zainiddin Nizamkhodzhayev.

The CEC of Uzbekistan accredited 54 observers from the IPA CIS. Among them are representatives of the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. The group also includes staff members of the Assembly headed by Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy and experts from the Monitoring the Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD).

Monitoring will also be organized at foreign polling stations in 11 countries: the IPA CIS observers will work in Baku, Minsk, Almaty, Astana, Bishkek, Vladivostok, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Moscow, Novosibirsk, St. Petersburg, Rome, Beijing, Seoul, Dubai, Ankara and Paris.

On 30 June 2023, the IPA CIS international observers visited polling stations in Tashkent as part of monitoring of snap presidential elections in Uzbekistan.

The members of the monitoring group noted that the snap elections process was conducted in a calm, friendly atmosphere in accordance with the established requirements of the national legislation and international standards of democratic elections. Citizens actively participated in voting.

During a visit to a polling station in Bishkek on 3 July 2023, Director of the IPA CIS IIMDD Bishkek Office Islambek Mursabekov met with Deputy Chair of the precinct election Commission Bakhtiyor Rozbakiev and Secretary of the Commission Pavel Saidov. They talked about the preparation and the organization of voting in the Kyrgyz Republic.

On 5 July, the IPA CIS international observers visited a polling station in Minsk in the Republic of Belarus.

Early voting at polling stations in the Republic of Uzbekistan is held from 28 June to 5 July 2023 from 9:00 to 18:00 on weekdays, from 11:00 to 17:00 on weekends and holidays.

The snap presidential elections in Uzbekistan are scheduled for 9 July 2023. On this day, a group of the IPA CIS international observers, consisting of MPs, representatives of the Commonwealth, staff members of the IPA CIS and experts of the IPA CIS IIMDD will visit polling stations in the capital and regions of Uzbekistan, as well as foreign polling stations.
