IPA CIS Observers Started Long-Term Monitoring of Elections to Jogorku Kenesh of Kyrgyz Republic

Within the long-term monitoring of the parliamentary elections in the Kyrgyz Republic, the IPA CIS observers from among the staff members of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat and the IIMDD experts started getting acquainted with the preparation for the voting scheduled for 4 October 2020.

On 6 and 7 September 2020, the observers visited the city of Osh and settlements in the Osh region.

At the meeting with Vice Mayor of the city of Osh Emil Shadykhanov and the staff members of the administration, the participants discussed the issues of opening of the polling stations in Osh, including the additional stations for the citizens registered in other regions of the country. The observers briefed the administration on the principles of the activity of the IPA CIS Observer Team and work schedule during the long-term monitoring.

The IPA CIS Observer Team also visited the territorial election commission of the city of Osh and met with Chair of the Commission Eraly Aranbayev and Special Representative of the Central Commission on Elections and Holding Referenda of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Osh region Rasul Kadyrov, who informed the observers on the training of the members of the election commissions, as well as the technical features of the organization of the current electoral campaign.

The observers visited the regional headquarters of the “Birimdik” party and got acquainted with the electoral strategy for the upcoming campaigning period.

On 8 and 9 September, the observers will continue their work in the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic – Bishkek.
