IPA CIS Observers Started Long-Term Monitoring of Elections to People’s Assembly of Gagauzia

On 26 August 2021, the IPA CIS observers met with the leadership of the Central Election Commission of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia (Republic of Moldova) via videoconferencing.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat - Director of the International Institute for Monitoring the Democracy Development (IPA CIS IIMDD) Ivan Mushket, Chairperson of the Gagauzia CEC Yana Kovalenko, Deputy Chairperson of the Gagauzia CEC Valentina Delhi, Gagauzia CEC Secretary Elena Gumuslu, international observers Alexander Ksendzov and Dmitriy Baryshnikov, as well as staff and experts of the IPA CIS IIMDD.

Ivan Mushket informed the meeting participants about the progress and results of long-term monitoring of the elections to the People's Assembly, as well as plans for short-term monitoring. The meeting also discussed issues related to legislative regulation and administration of elections, taking into account changes in the Electoral Code of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, accreditation of international and national observers, media coverage of the campaign, electoral disputes and their resolution. Participants also discussed measures to be taken during the voting to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
