Importance of Institute of Presidential Power Discussed by Experts of Electoral Processes

The Tavricheskiy Palace hosted a round table dedicated to the institution of presidential power and the organization of elections in the Republic of Belarus.

The event was organized by the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD), the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Belarus and the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Belarus.

Head of the Center for Public Relations and Electoral Process of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Belarus Andrei Belyakov opened the round table. He introduced the participants of the meeting and informed that the dialog was held within the framework of the international research to practice conference “The Institute of Presidential Power in the CIS countries”, which will be held on 23 May in St. Petersburg.

Deputy Head of the IPA CIS IIMDD, Doctor of Law, Professor Ivan Mushket added that the conference was preceded by a series of events, including the Tavricheskiy Discussion Club and round tables devoted to the observation of the presidential elections in Russia and Uzbekistan.

The importance of the institute of presidential power was noted by Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Viktor Kogut.

In Belarus, new electoral limits for presidential candidates have been fixed. One of them is the age limit. A citizen of Belarus not younger than 40 years old can be elected president.

Acting Head of the Department of World Politics, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of International Relations of St. Petersburg State University, Candidate of Political Sciences, Associate Professor, the IPA CIS IIMDD expert Dmitriy Baryshnikov, emphasized the professionalism of members of election commissions, timely response to requests, active work with young voters.

Chair of the Youth Council at the CEC of the Republic of Belarus, specialist of the Center for work with the population and electoral process of the Academy of Management under the President of the Republic of Belarus Dmitriy Muraveinikov told the round table participants about the participation of young people in election campaigns.
