Representatives of CEC Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan Arrived in St. Petersburg for Conference on Institute of Presidency

Representatives of the CEC Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan arrived in St. Petersburg for a conference dedicated to the institute of the presidency.

In St. Petersburg a meeting was held between Chair of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Chair of the CIS Advisory Board of the Heads of Election Administration Authorities Zayniddin Nizamkhodzhaev and Member of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan Shavkhat Utemisov with Head of the St. Petersburg Election Commission Maksim Meyksin.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS - Director of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD) Ivan Mushket, Consul General of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdurakhmon Makhmudov and Member of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan Gulnoza Rakhimova.

The event took place within the framework of the international research and practice conference “Institute of Presidential Power in the CIS Countries”.

At the meeting, prospects for cooperation in the development of the institute of international observation were discussed. An exchange of experiences in the field of digitizing the electoral process took place. Representatives of the central election commissions were also interested in the experience of the St. Petersburg Election Commission in raising the legal culture of youth.

Both republics, following constitutional referendums, are undergoing a transformation of their electoral systems, analyzing and utilizing the experiences of other countries. As noted at the meeting, there is interest in the Russian experience of remote electronic voting and the organization of multi-day voting, which provides more opportunities for voters.

The Head of the St. Petersburg Election Commission thanked representatives of friendly countries for their active participation in international observation during the presidential elections held in March in the Russian Federation.

Zayniddin Nizamkhodzhaev noted that Uzbekistan would be pleased to welcome members of the St. Petersburg Election Commission, headed by Maksim Meyksin, as observers at the parliamentary elections scheduled for October this year.

As part of the International Research and Practice Conference, a round table “Institute of the Presidency in the 21st Century: Development Prospects” and a panel discussion, where the monograph “Institute of the Presidency in the CIS Countries” will be presented, will take place the following day.

Participants in the events will discuss the transformation of the institute of the presidency in the CIS space, features of organizing presidential elections and observing them, and the powers of presidents in different countries.

The conference is organized by the IPA CIS IIMDD and partner universities of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat.
