Meeting With IPA CIS Observers Takes Place in Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Republic of Tajikistan

The IPA CIS international observers headed by Team Coordinator Oleg Melnichenko met with Chairman of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of the Republic of Tajikistan Bakhtiyor Khudoyorzoda.

Oleg Melnichenko handed over to Bakhtiyor Khudoyorzoda a report on the outcomes of the long-term monitoring of preparation of the elections, as well as the Conclusion on the Compliance of the Legislation Regulating the Elections to the Majlisi namoyandagon Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan with International Standards for Democratic Elections.

The CEC Chairman spoke about the work of the Commission, as well as about the activities of district and precinct election commissions of the Republic of Tajikistan. He informed the participants of the meeting that in total 167 international observers and more than 270 journalists from different countries were accredited for the presidential elections in the Republic. 68 district and 3375 precinct election commissions have been organized in Tajikistan together with 39 polling stations opened in 29 foreign countries.

The head of the CEC also noted that the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tajikistan will ensure the implementation of measures necessary to prevent the threat of infection, while holding the electoral campaign under the pandemic.

Bakhtiyor Khudoyorzoda mentioned that about 500,000 ballots were printed for citizens of Tajikistan voting abroad, although according to the past years, around 80,000 – 90,000 people took part in the voting.

Oleg Melnichenko in his turn noted the great work done by the CEC and thanked the representatives of the Commission for the provided assistance for international observers during the long-term monitoring.
