Students and Professors of CIS Universities Outlined New Areas of Cooperation

On 9 June 2022, a roundtable “Student Cooperation in the CIS” organized by the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD) under the auspices of the CIS Youth Inter-Parliamentary Forum “Young Parliamentarians – Looking into the Future of the Commonwealth” took place. More than 300 people representing 24 educational institutions from seven CIS countries took part in the roundtable.

Opening the event, Deputy Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat – Director of the IIMDD IPA CIS, Doctor of Law, Professor Ivan Mushket noted that student community is the future of the CIS. He also stated that preserving the historical memory of the younger generation, increasing the social and civic activity of young people was necessary for the successful development of the CIS integration space. MPs and representatives of academic community also addressed the students of the Commonwealth with welcoming speeches.

During the roundtable, a discussion on topical issues of student cooperation took place. The event participants discussed the issues of patriotic education and the preservation of national culture, improving the legal culture and civil legal awareness of young people, overcoming legal nihilism and electoral absenteeism among young people. The issues of scientific cooperation and joint scientific projects, the development of student sports, the importance of environmental protection, ensuring the ecological well-being of citizens of the Commonwealth and the role of students in this matter were also discussed.
